Always keeping the client's best interest in mind is exactly what our founder, Joe Vaughn, believed when he started Vaughn Construction. Joe began working in construction at the age of 13, in the footsteps of his father, William T. Vaughn, a well-respected construction superintendent in Houston, and his grandfather, William W. Vaughn, a carpenter and mason. Joe saw firsthand the respect his father had gained with this philosophy.
Although the roots of the company date back over 100 years, Joe formally created Vaughn Construction in 1988 and implemented his father’s philosophy, focusing on solving problems and meeting his clients’ needs with a keen sense of ownership and attention to detail. As a result, Vaughn Construction quickly became well known and respected by its clients for its skilled work, integrity, and problem-solving abilities.
Before Joe Vaughn handed over the reins of his company to his family members, he ensured they gained the experience and knowledge necessary to deliver successful projects while upholding the company’s core values. Second-generation leaders, Tom Vaughn, Bill Vaughn, Mike Simpson, and Michael Vaughn, took hands‑on roles, learned the business from the ground up, and worked in the trenches, getting the work done.
After Joe fully transitioned the company to the second generation of leaders, his family carried his legacy forward. In their hands, the company experienced significant growth, built award-winning projects, and established itself as one of the largest general contractors in Texas, while remaining firmly rooted in Joe’s values.
Joe saw first-hand the respect his father had gained with this philosophy. Through his early years, he focused on solving problems and meeting his clients’ needs with a keen sense of ownership and attention to detail. As a result, he became well known and respected by his clients for his honesty, integrity, and problem-solving abilities.
After his passing in 2014, his family continued his legacy. His values guide our culture and define how we work. Vaughn Construction treats every project as its own. That is the Vaughn way.
Joe Vaughn, our founder, envisioned a company that would endure for generations, a place where leaders grew from hands-on experience and where every project strengthens communities. He believed in preparing the next generation of Vaughn’s leadership by giving them the tools, knowledge, and opportunities to succeed.
Today, we continue to carry forward Joe’s vision for the company. Our current leadership began their careers with Vaughn Construction, learning the business from the ground up, and have grown into seasoned construction executives with more than 20 years of hands-on experience. Their work has spanned every facet of project delivery, overseeing daily field performance and guiding clients through projects of every scale, from fast turnaround assignments to major capital programs. Vaughn Construction’s leadership helps drive market execution, ensuring operational excellence and client success while fostering a family-oriented environment where we all take pride in what we build.
