Project Overview

The MREB Two expansion included additional state-of-the-art laboratories, support space, lab core functions, and additional shell space. We also tied into two levels of MREB One and expanded the existing vivarium and BSL-3. We brought in new power, data, and hydronic lines from the existing central plant and relocated the existing emergency generator from the south side of the facility to the east side. The project included a two-level vertical expansion above an active gross anatomy lab.

Unique Challenge

After the vertical expansion, we needed to relocate the existing rooftop exhaust fans to Level Four. To keep the active lab operational during relocation, we developed a three-phase plan. First, we relocated the backup exhaust fan to a temporary location on Level Two. Then, we shut down the primary exhaust fan and relocated it to the new roof. Lastly, we relocated the backup exhaust fan to the new roof with no impact to operations.
