City of Houston Celebrates New Sunnyside Health & Multi-Service Center with Ribbon-Cutting

The new Sunnyside Health & Multi-Service Center, for which Vaughn served as the construction manager-at-risk, officially opened to the public recently with a ribbon-cutting ceremony. The clinic will aid in increasing access to healthcare in Houston’s famed Sunnyside area. Officials from the City of Houston and Harris County, including Commissioner Rodney Ellis, Congressman Al Greene, Mayor Sylvester Turner, and council were present at the ceremony.

The Center, completed in November 2022, will aid the expansion of health services in Houston’s historic Sunnyside community. Community members will have access to senior services, mental health services, family planning, services for women and children, reintegration programs for people who have previously been incarcerated, recovery programs to fight the opioid problem, and other services.

I believe that this was another opportunity for Vaughn to embody our purpose in the work we create,” said a Vaughn project manager. “The structure was built as a tilt wall construction building to accomplish the scale of the building within the budget. Those are typically stigmatized and have a very industrial appearance. We were charged with building a structure that the neighborhood could be proud of and that would not be dismissed as a straightforward tilt wall building.”
