Sarofim Pavilion and Parking Infrastructure Building Wins Silver Building Team award

The Building Design and Construction (BD+C) magazine recently awarded the  Memorial Hermann Texas Medical Center, Sarofim Pavilion and Parking Infrastructure Building project with the Silver Building Team Award. BD+C bestows the team award to projects that produce state-of-the-art buildings through collaborative efforts between the Owner, design team, and construction manager. The judges evaluate the project's design/engineering/construction quality and excellence, as well as how the project team collaborated to overcome obstacles to make the project succeed.

Vaughn served as the construction manager-at-risk on the project. The expansion minimized congestion in the existing facilities and provided additional Level 1 trauma services for the more than 40,000 patients who visit this hospital each year. A collaborative effort by the Owner, architect, contractor, and engineer team, the hospital expansion was a project in which both the process and team culture manifested the same level of care, expertise, and rigor provided to the hospital's patients.

The panel of judges were impressed with our master planning throughout the construction process and our focus on keeping stakeholders engaged from start to finish. We secured the win through our successful management of the complex budget, schedule challenges, and project phasing; our teamwork with the design team, including our 'Breaking New Ground Room' which served as the project home base from master planning through construction; and the development of the project site without disrupting the existing hospital's critical functions.
