Vaughn Construction & Marmon Mok Honored with ENR Regional Best Practice Awards

Each year, Engineering News-Record (ENR) honors the best construction projects from ENR’s 10 regional editions, judged using various criteria, including safety, innovation, quality, and teamwork across 17 specialized categories. Regional winners then go on to be considered for the national Best of the Best projects. The Texas Department of Transportation Stassney Campus project received recognition in the Government/Public Building category.

Best Project, Government/Public Building

The 425,000 SF campus consolidates 36 TxDOT divisions into a single location with four buildings: an office, laboratory, warehouse, and parking garage, totaling more than 1.19 million SF across 49 acres. Before work could begin on any building foundations, we installed several retaining walls to modify the slope to accommodate new buildings and infrastructure. Segmented block retaining walls helped protect the waterway and saved almost $1 million. These walls went up around each building to drain the storm systems into retention ponds, which would then drain back to the creek slowly to prevent erosion.

“We are honored to be recognized,” said Jose Villarreal, director of client relations. “We appreciate the recognition and are thankful for the hard work our team put in to WOW our client and deliver exceptional projects.”

We are grateful to have worked with Marmon Mok Architecture on this project. Congratulations to the project team who made this project successful!
